Google Analytics for your Business, Part 4: Visitors

  
  
  

With keywords and referring sites covered, let’s now explore the way in which you can encourage people unfamiliar to your brand to become new visitors and for those new visitors to then become return visitors.google_analytics

The Visitors Profile section in the Visitors Overview of Google Analytics allows you to identify which of your visitors are new visitors and which ones are return visitors. Along with giving you an idea of how reachable your site may be to new visitors, this also allows you to gauge how many people find your site interesting enough to come back a second, third, fourth time, etc.

What’s important, though, is that those returning visitors continue to return, that new visitors join the classification of return visitors, and that other people will be encouraged to visit your site for the first time. Here are some points to consider in ensuring you spike people’s interest and then keep them coming back.

 

  • For returning visitors, post a clear “Thank You” message towards them on your website or through email for those who have provided you with their address. By doing this, you let them know you appreciate their interest and investment in your business.
  • If you have an e-Commerce website (online shop), offer repeat visitors exclusive deals on your products/services.
  • Creating an FAQ page will allow new users to ease into the finding out what it is your company does in conjunction with your About Us page. An FAQ page will also allow you to provide helpful information on how someone can navigate your site if they find it a little confusing.
  • Much like an FAQ page, ensure you have a clearly marked, easy-to-find Contact Us page that new visitors can use if they need to ask you any questions.
  • Create a survey for returning visitors. Given their recurrence on your site, they would have some good insight into what works on your site and what doesn’t. Take their feedback and address the biggest issues they raise. They will appreciate you interacting with them and listening to their opinions.
  • Run a contest that encourages new visitors to get excited and invest in your business’s brand and website.

 

The more you interact with your visitors, the more incentive they’ll have to return and refer you to their friends. If you make their experiences while on your site good ones, then you’re already on your way to increasing traffic.
