If you've been wishing for greater targeting options with your Page's post updates on Facebook, then you're in for a treat.
Facebook recently gave word that they will be rolling out new page post targeting options that should become available to all Facebook Pages over the next few weeks. Officially called 'Page Post Targeting Enhanced', the new options will offer Page admins far greater control over who their posts will reach.
For a while, the only options that have existed for Pages was to either choose the overall 'Public' option or to target based on language and location. While location certainly allowed for geographic specificity, anything else besides this and language could not be determined. With Facebook's new targeting options, location and language will still exist along with these additional targeting choices:
- Interested in
- Relationship status
- College/university grad: College/unversity name and their major
- In college/university: College/university name, major they're studying, and how many years they've been at college/university
- In high school
These new targeting options will work in the same way that language and location targeted posts have in the past. Your post will still be visible to anyone who visits your Facebook Page, but the post will only appear in the news feeds of those you're targeting.
The marketing advantage of Facebook's new post targeting options
As with any aspect of an inbound marketing strategy, marketing efforts with refined targeting are much more effective than throwing out your message to anyone and everyone. So while your 50-year-old female audience may love your fashion line, they may not actually care about your tube tops that have been designed with 20-somethings in mind.
With this new targeting system, you will be able to make sure your 50-year-old female audience isn't confronted by a post concerning the tube tops, while the audience you know will probably show a substantial interest will have it efficiently pop up in their news feed.
With every business and product, you'll have an audience you would prefer to reach over others dependent on what you're trying to market. It means that you can reach who you intend to, and your Facebook fans will actually appreciate posts that are more relevant to them over you simply targeting a post with minimal parameters that reaches far too many uninterested inviduals.
The greater the targeting options, the better your marketing strategies can be.
