3 of the best Mother's Day campaigns

Every year, we reserve one day in May to celebrate the very person responsible for our existence, mum! As with any day of significance, many brands have launched ad campaigns that commemorate the bond between mother and child and here are some of our favourites.

We sifted through hundreds of Mother’s Day campaigns that flooded social media and found three that caught our eye this year for doing something a bit different:

Google: 'Here’s to the Moms'

Google traditionally does a special Google banner for Mother's Day. This year, it released the commercial below from creative agency Whirled, praising mums for everything they do. When it comes to using social media, you really can't go wrong in giving mothers some love. And in fact, it's becoming a specialty for Whirled, too. Without drawing too much attention to themselves, Google is able to highlight their range of products, showing how they connect mothers with their children. Nothing that’s going to make waves in the advertising world, but as Google so often does, holds onto solid brand marketing and playing on something that everyone can relate to.

UN Women: 'Give mom back her name'

For men in Egypt and in many other countries in the Middle East, there is an unsual tradition of not disclosing one’s mother’s name in public, prompting shame and contempt in public forums. Over time, her name becomes forgotten and she is only referred to as ‘The mother of her eldest son’. UN Women’s ‘Give Mom Back Her Name’ campaign is simple yet powerful, aiming to take steps to remove this taboo and giving mother’s in Egypt and the Middle East their names back.


Hallmark: 'Put your heart to paper'

As part of its "Put Your Heart to Paper" campaign, Hallmark asked adults to discuss how they feel about their mum without saying "I love you" or "thank you". Hallmark has become synonymous with "cheesy" or "soppy" sentiment, but this campaign allows real people to speak from the heart and share feelings that one cannot find on the shelves. Though part of an eight instalment series, the videos below target the power of soul mates and the unconditional love shared on Mother's Day.
